Volunteers Needed
DeLaSalle is seeking a team of qualified and motivated adults ready to donate their time, wisdom, and expertise to help educate students. We are striving to develop a partnership with colleges, churches, businesses and individuals that are willing to help make a difference in the lives of DeLaSalle's youth.
Some of the many volunteer opportunities include:
Classroom Assistant/Tutor*: Work with students individually or in a group in a classroom area of your interest or area of expertise. Preferred time commitment: One (1) hour per week
Mentor*: Spend time with an individual student or group of students at the school but outside of a particular classroom. Activities could include tutoring, group discussion about topics in which mentor has expertise, topics of interest or concern of student. Preferred time commitment: One (1) hour per week
Job Shadow*: Provide student the opportunity to visit you at your place of employment. Help the student understand what your job involves, education and work experience that is required. The school would provide the student's transportation to and from the shadow. Preferred time commitment: One (1) day out of the year for 2- 4 hours (per student)
Mock Interviews*: Provide a very basic "mock" interview for student on the school premises. At the completion of the interview, offer them constructive feedback regarding their performance; always ending on a positive note. Preferred time commitment: One - Ten (1-10) days per year; 2 - 3 hours per day; interviewing 4 - 8 students. Each interview should last no longer than 10 - 12 minutes.
Student Press Advisory Committee*: This very active committee works with the Student Press @ DeLaSalle to implement their business plan. Committee members participate in a variety of activities from making sales calls to prospective customers with students to delivery the completed order to helping with data entry and accounting for the business. Preferred time commitment: One (1) hour per week
Special Event Committees: DeLaSalle's special events provide a way for DeLaSalle supporters to contribute to our worthy cause and have fun at the same time! The volunteer committees are an essential part of planning, organizing and raising funds for our annual events, which contribute nearly $350,000 to support education at DeLaSalle annually. The three annual events are the Two West Pumpkin Patch for DeLaSalle; the DeLaSalle Movie Benefit presented by AMC Entertainment, and the Marjorie Durwood Grant Speaker Series benefiting DeLaSalle. Preferred time commitment: One (1) hour per week, though time varies with committees
* All volunteers having direct interaction with DeLaSalle students are required to complete a Youthfriends application and background check. A copy of your social security card is required for the background check.
